Welcome to the Friends of Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall Commons
We hope that this website will encourage all friends of Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall Commons to enjoy the commons, learn about their history, wildlife and plants - great and small management strategies, problems and solutions.
The two commons are a fantastic resource for us all and the 'Friends of the Commons' was set up in 1991 after the destructiveness of the Great Storm in 1987 to support the Commons Conservators in their work to restore them to their former glory. Our aim is to raise public awareness of the importance of the Commons and the need to care for them, to act as a pressure group when necessary, to guard against intrusion and generally to fundraise and support the work to provide a balance between woodland, grassland and heathland while restoring rock outcrops and broad vistas.
We urge you all to take a walk (with a plastic bag for the sadly inevitable rubbish) and enjoy the fresh air and exercise and the wonderful sights and sounds of our commons.
